connectivity at home or even in offices. There is thus a huge unmet demand for connectivity, particularly among the young and the poor who can hardly afford the purchase of computers and necessary peripherals. To cater to their needs, the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Development Network has decided that people of small means and students should be provided the facility. To meet the directive from the Steering Committee, SDN now has opened a Cyber Cafe at the premise of the SDN within BIDS on the ground floor.

On July 6 last, the Cyber Cafe was inaugurated by Mr. Abu Ahmed Abdullah, the Director General of BIDS.
The Cyber Cafe has at present 3 computers with full on-line facility. It is now open to the children of the staff of BIDS as an interim arrangement. Once the problems of management are sorted out, the SDN will invite students including

children from slums on fixed days of the week (different days for different schools/slums).
Although, generally the facility will be free, for some there may be a nominal charge to cover related expenses. Over time the facility will be extended further.
