AL leader Ibrahim laid to rest in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Aug 10: - Chittagong police handed the body of late Awami League leader Ibrahim Ali to his relatives after completion of second post mortem at the morgue in presence of the 6-member medical team this morning.

The autopsy started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 9:55 a.m. Acting head of Forensic Department of Chittagong Medical College Dr. Mahib Ullah, Dr. Fazle Rabbi, Dr. Mohammed Mostafa, Dr. Masud Ahmed, Dr. Sanaullah Shelly and Dr. AKM Mahbub Uddin were present at the morgue.

A representative of Professor Chowdhury M. Mahmud, head of the medical team, was also present during the second post mortem as Prof. Mahmud could not make time to attend in person, team members said.

A member of the medical team said that the post mortem report would be sent to Sylhet police within a few days after decision of the medical team, which is yet to be scheduled.

The joint team Hathazari and Panchlaish police handed the body over to the family members of the deceased at the morgue at 10:45 a.m. The body was taken to Laldighi Maidan for Namaj-e-Janaza at 11:00 am.

Then it was taken to his village home at Garduara of Hathazari by an ambulance escorted by Additional Police Super (north) Jahangir Hussain Matubbar, ASP Hathazari Circle and OC of Hathazari police station. General Secretary of Chittagong north unit of Awami League MA Salam and other leaders of the organization accompanied the body of Ibrahim to his village.

He was buried at about 2:30 p.m. at the family graveyard in Garduara village after another Namaj-e-Janaza attended by villagers including women and children.

Huge number of people including Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Alhaj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and workers and leaders of Awami League and its front organizations also participated at the Laldighi Namaj-e-Janaza in the morning.

The villagers of Garduara and its adjoining areas were overwhelmed with grief and sorrow as the body was taken there on a mortuary van at about 1:45 p.m.           

The body of Ibrahim, office secretary of Sylhet City Awami League and close associate of Sylhet City Mayor Badruddin Kamran, died in car bomb explosion at Sylhet on Saturday last.

The body was handed over to late Ibrahimís brother Jafar who brought it to Chittagong by an ambulance on Sunday after completion of all formalities including the post mortem report by Sylhet police but Hathazari police in a tricky manner detained the body for second autopsy that created suspicion about the intention of the government.  

Meanwhile, Awami League Chittagong city, north and south district unit called a public rally at Shahid Minar in the city at 4:00 pm tomorrow in protest of killing AL leader Ibrahim and attempt on the life of Sylhet City Mayor Badruddin Kamran.
