Sports News Monday, September 08, 2003 Compiled by SDNP Head lines Residential hockey camp from tomorrow SPORTS REPORTER, The Independent Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) has already selected a 20-member national team for the coming Sixth Asia Cup Hockey to be held in Kuala Lumpur from September 21. The preliminary 29-member squad was short-listed to 20 at a meeting of the BHF selection committee on Sunday, the concluding day of the first phase trial camp which began soon after the end of the Premier Hockey League last week. The Malaysia bound squad was supposed to be made public on Sunday but the BHF decided to hold the announcement for a day for unknown reasons. The squad will be announced today. The team will go to Bangladesh Krira Shikha Protishthan (BKSP) tomorrow for the residential camp under coach Abdur Razzak, a former national player, who will conduct the camp with assistance from BKSP's Indian coach Bangush. A 26-member team including 20 players will leave for Kuala Lumpur on September 17. U-19 soccer team leaves for India tomorrow UNB, DHAKA, The Independent Bangladesh under-19 football team will leave Dhaka for Jamshedpur, India, on Tuesday to take part in the "GRD Tata International Invitation Football Championship" to be held on September 11-22. Five teams from Iran, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, India and host Tata Sports Academy (TSA) will take part in the league-based meet and the top two teams of the point table will play in the final on September 22. Bangladesh team will play their first match against TSA team on the inaugural day on September 11. The 2nd match with India will be held on 13 while the third and fourth matches against Iran and Uzbekistan on 16 and 18 respectively. Nat'l Women's Handball from today UNB, DHAKA, The Independent The final round of the 16th National Women's Handball Championship, organised by Bangladesh Handball Federation, begins today at the Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jessore. A total of nine matches will be held on the opening day with Jessore Education Board taking on Narail DSA in the inaugural match at 8am. In all, 10 teams, split into three groups, will initially take part in the first phase. The participating teams are: Group A - BJMC, Narail DSA and Jessore Education Board. Group B - Bangladesh Ansar, Chittagong Metropolis KS, Madaripur and Panchaghar DSA. Group C - Dhaka, Jessore and Dinajpur DSAs. Later, the three group champions will again play in the super-three round and finally top two teams will play the final on September 12. |
