BNP scrutinising CHT accord

STAFF REPORTER, The Independent

The ruling BNP yesterday said that the government was scrutinising different articles of the Chittagong Hill Tracts peace accord.

"It is true that we spoke against the peace accord signed by the previous Awami League government. But, it is not judicious to cancel the accord without scrutinising it," Agriculture Minister MK Anwar told the Jatiya Sangsad in reply to a question of Jatiya Party lawmaker GM Kader. Kader questioned whether now the ruling party BNP, would nullify the accord as while in opposition it had opposed its signing by the AL.

Anwar also told the House that the government would revise any article which was anti-constitution in the peace accord. He, however, did not answer whether the government would nullify the accord.
